A tad bit annoyed

It is Saturday night.  10 P.M.  Well I know where I am.  If you get it you get it.  If not just skip over it.

The storm was said to hit on Friday.  I actually got out of work early and it hit pretty hard.  Near white out conditions near my home.  I was actually quite pleased that my Sister and Brother in Law were already home.  We were all safe and sound.  Now to just wait out the storm.  Made burgers watching the snow fall, it was so pretty.  Ate.  Cautioned myself it would most likely be a long weekend.  Probably wouldn't even get out of the house until Sunday.

Morning, a gorgeous coating of 30 inches of snow was all over.  No that is unusual for us.  Dammit just made the best of it.  Poured coffee.  Enjoyed it.  Brother in law got up, got dog out.  He already looked pensive about what laid ahead.  I offered, "we've got 2 whole days to dig out.  It's very doable."  I didn't think it should take that long in reality.  Yes I may be a heart patient, but it is a heart of a lion.  I've the temper once described; a cat that has just had a premonition of getting hit with a bucket of  water.  So I was trying to tread cautiously.  Unfortunately my sister woke up.

I was prepared to have some chat.  Mayhaps a discussion about the days events and yes breakfast.  I was ill prepared for getting the order shouted at me as I was playing video games.  "I want 2 eggs with cheese and a bagel."  She had the forethought on the way home the night before to purchase some pepperidge farm bagels.  I on the other hand was getting my arse walloped by a paragon.  "She shouted my name."  I swore about getting killed and said just a minute.  She took it personally.  Eventually I got up and made breakfast.

Brother in law donned regalia and prepared to start shoveling.  I finished a bagel and said I'd be right out.  Also poured the remnants of the coffee into my mug.  He was concerned about my knee and the defibrillator.  I was concerned with what would happen if I didn't get out there.

Made some little way towards the cars.  Tough going.  After about an hour we took a break.  Mind you I've a 2 car driveway so it's a tad on the large size.  Inside rested waited about an hour and went back out.  I continued and made sure he could get to the garage and the snow blower.  He loves to use it.  I shoveled the walk again and went back in.  That's when the day fell apart for me.

I was getting ready to get back outside he came in.  "There's to much we can't do this ourselves!"  He was exhausted.  I tried to spin it to no avail.  Told him to relax.  Remined we had 2 days to dig out and it was only 11:00.  In a huff he went to make tea.  I was outside now.

A neighbor was walking down the street, she'd had someone do her driveway.  The dude across the street, already dug out btw.  Maybe 10 years younger than me, but definitely in better shape.  He'd asked her and she mentioned our landscaper.  Across the way 2 houses down they were dug out.  I started digging out and grabbed the snow blower.  The cars hadn't been cleaned off.  Half the drive way to the bottom done when I was summoned back inside.

Things I don't care for.  Getting summoned.  Being told that someone had called to have my driveway done because it was to much for us.  I'm guessing my sister saw the state my brother in law was in and made the calls.  I think it makes us look poorly.  So I was asked to stop and I did.  No cars cleaned.  No way to get out of the drive way.  Trapped and really wishing it was nice enough to go outside for a cigar.  Oh no the tale is not yet done.

I sat gloomily in my room.  I was called into the other bedroom by my sister.  "What about lunch?"  There was this light in her eyes.  (let me mention this.  the previous night my brother in law had insisted my sister should at least cook since we would be shovelling.  I didn't disagree.)  I looked at her and said "You expect me to cook lunch too!?"  She looked away and I left.  I made a peanut butter and jelly sand which, she called me back and asked me to heat up some leftover ziti.

It was about 2 and I laid down.  My sister went into the kitchen.  Brother in law kindly shovelled path in back for dog.  Face it, no one likes to do their business squatting in the snow.  I napped.  While I napped she did 1 pan I did eggs in, 1 pot from mashed potatoes, few plastic containers and implements.  No one touches the burger pan.  Then back to the other room.  Around 4, no one had come for the snow removal.  I was fiercely annoyed, and oh yes, brother in law started drinking.  He's fine with 3 in him, after that it's any ones guess.  Anyway  I lay back down when I heard I was cooking dinner.

5:30, they never come to do the shovelling in.  Get up, he's in that I can help drunky drunk mood.  I'm in a mean (so glad I'm here to serve you 2 sons of bitches mood) and trying to keep it under control.  I told him to take care of green beans.  After the entire bag he decided they were bad and tossed them.  I dipped some thin chicken in flour and fried them.  Had him make some microwavable veggies.  Told him to take the potatoes out, reheats from previous night.  He put them on top of the microwave and did the veggies.  Chicken was done, veggies, told him to heat the potatoes.  Did you see the previous sentence before the last one?

I turned to my horror there is the microwave, new one still in box in living room, running empty with bowl of mashed potatoes on top of it.  I made a very nasty remark.  He took little offense and went to bring plate into sister.  I should mention I also brought up that tomorrow was going to be a longer day since we now only had a day to shovel.  Drunkenly he said he'd go out and I told him no one works outside when drinking.

At some point, the dog who'd been underfoot had left my sister and went to see him.  He was eating, but overreacted because of beer.  I told the dog behind him not to bother him he's nasty when drunk.  He made a look of appeal to no one in particular, and I said dude that don't make it untrue.

Later sister thanked me, said she thought he was mad at her.  I explained situation, and that it was just close quarters and a lot of shit rolling downhill.  No real resolution.  Brother in law said he'd be out early.  Told him not to early, it will be lonely, every other house on the block is dug out.  Only 1 had help, and that was the older woman I mentioned earlier.

So that was my day.  Tomorrow.  Well you know what happens when snow that wasn't shoveled freezes right?  Yeah.  Not looking forward to it.  I'm sure I'll see that after I'm done making breakfast tho.
