5:20 Monday morning, coffee, hope I can fit it in.
Sunday broke, slept okay. Played some video game, was probably about 6:30. 15 min later bro in law got up and brewed coffee. I always wait, as I am an early riser, but I respect everyone loves fresh coffee. No it doesn't work the other way around. That's because if I'm still sleeping, I'm probably not feeling well. Gave him some encouraging words and said we'd have it done in no time.
Sunday was usually bakery and papers run, but not this time. So I emerged somewhere after 7. I told myself I would not loose my temper at all, I would not take it out on the idiots. Yes I've a natural temper, doesn't mean I'm enough of a prick to enjoy it.
Decided on bacon and pancakes, put 5 pieces on to fry. 1 for me, not a huge lover of bacon. Brother in law was in the other room watching television when I heard him holler "what? he's busy." He got up and tended to my sister. I was pleased to have missed it. I knew it was her saying not to make breakfast because she was going to. I had the first pancake poured when he came out. She had called for me, she thought I was still in my room. Asking if I'd make her some toast. Did I call that or not. Anyway breakfast was good. My bacon strip broke in half and hit the floor. I had a pancake doused in local honey and was good to go.
I was dressed about 8:30. Told brother in law not to rush, we had a full days work. Watch the end of his movie. I stepped outside. It was a gorgeous winter wonderland. And weird to say it, but about 31 degrees no wind, felt warm. I was also layered appropriately.
I started shovelling around my car. I mentioned it's a 2 car driveway, if not I have now. Sisters car on top, his next to it. My car on the bottom, I'd parked behind my sister that day. I'd shovelled from the bumper to the tower when my brother in law came out. Told him to take his time and just enjoy the beauty of the day. Not a plow had been back to our streets, in days so we were plowed in. The snow was a little under 3 feet, it was a lot of chop it up and shovel.
Not to many people came out and about, everyone else was practically dug out. 2 exceptions that weren't home. One was a snowbird, other was a neighbor whose folks were elderly and needed care. She'd been out there since the start of the snow. The home health aides couldn't make it. Trust me it was bad. Highway just reopened thins morning out East. So we talked and shovelled, covered a variety of subjects, made sure to get some rest stops. Thankfully it wasn't bitterly cold. Just got a refill on coffee, we've got some light freezing rain moving in this morning.
We'd reached the back door of my car when one of my other neighbors walked down. Nice guy. He is the elder son of a couple who lived here and were friendly with my parents circle. Nice people. Long time residents is the point. Of course when he asked if we needed some help I said sure. Well if he didn't come back with the right sized snow blower for the job. Mine is good for under a food of snow but can do some clean up.
There was cleaning off of the cars, snow blower helped there too. Brother in laws car was cleaned off and he backed it up so we could get to the front of it. Sisters car and mine cleaned off. Neighbor even made a path round my car and up to the front door.
Much thanks and then it was up to us. Time constraints and boredom begin for me just now so I can only imagine the reader. My car was the last one to be able to be freed. It was stuck. Had to shovel out the bottom of the driveway. I insisted my brother in law move my sisters car down so the sun could hit her area. She rarely goes out on the weekends. The the walk way and just near her car never sees sun, and is generally the last place for ice to hide. I was actually proud of the job. I kept pointing out what a good job and that it was nice to actually be able to see the progress. He was out there with me from a bit after 9 until 1.
I'd determine that I would go to the super market, it had been 2 days surely the roads were clear. Brother in law was going to get them lunch. And yes, I dearly wanted a smoke.
Slowly I made my way down my now 1 way street. The corner a night mare of where cars went through. Not a plow. But it's a tertiary road. Just up the block was a secondary and surely that was clear sailing. Window down, not everyone here was dug out either. At the end I saw a car going left. WHAT THE HELL! No plow. There were people there to help move him when he got stuck, I suddenly questioned the logic of my errand. I made the corner, didn't try right and went left. So unplowed.
Back in the day my town was legendary. Always plowed, not so much now. However, must give thought to this. The whole area was hit by this storm. Perhaps they couldn't even get out. Just some food for thought.
It didn't look good at all, I questioned the journey and made a right a little later. Maybe I'd try town instead of the next one over. Nope. Encased, few places plowed. Scary part were passing people walking in the streets, sidewalks impassible. The supermarket parking lot was closed, just being plowed.
Okay sorry but it's 10 to 6, must get ready. Hopefully I'll remember to pick up the thread.
